Thank you everyone, for your contributions to this thread, it has encouraged me to know that I can try harder to keep me and my wife from being depressed about this. This web site is a pretty good sister and brotherhood of Real People.

I feel Bilious, now, help
by Judicial Committee inme and my wife took a nice pumpkin pie and some brand new pajamas to my dear mother who stays at my sisters house, she is ninety one (91) mind you, ok it was her birthday but there was no candles or a birthday card and she did need some new pajamas.
ok, two weeks later, my brother in-law comes to our house and practically forces his way into the house, and proceeds to tell my wife who has never been a jehovahs witness ever but does know their rules because i explained them to her, that he does not want no more holiday food in his house of any kind, (of note) his wife who is a witness ate some of the home made pumpkin pie and if truth be known my brother in-law did too.
anyway i am trying to make some sort of sense of this, he comes to our house laying down the law of jehovahs witnesses and insulted me and my wife all over a simple homemade delicious pumpkin pie which is my moms favorite, two weeks after the fact.

Me and my wife took a nice pumpkin pie and some brand new pajama’s to my dear mother who stays at my sister’s house, she is ninety one (91) mind you, ok it was her birthday “but” there was no candle’s or a birthday card and she did need some new pajama’s. Ok, two weeks later, my brother in-law comes to our house and practically forces his way into the house, and proceeds to tell my wife who has never been a Jehovah’s Witness ever but does know their rules because I explained them to her, that he does not want no more holiday food in his house of any kind, (of note) his wife who is a Witness ate some of the home made pumpkin pie and if truth be known my brother in-law did too. Anyway I am trying to make some sort of sense of this, he comes to our house laying down the law of Jehovah’s Witnesses and insulted me and my wife “All over a simple homemade delicious Pumpkin Pie” which is my mom’s favorite, two weeks after the fact. I was forced to demand he leave the house, he became indignant at me and called me an apostate, and said I was mixed up in my head, additionally he knows I had a life threatening brain injury which left me with some difficulties.

Read S. Hassan's Book: Do JW's really fit the cult mold?
by simon17 infirst time i got a chance to read his book, "combatting cult mind control" and was interested to see if jw's fell into the cult mold.
my opinion after carefully reading and having left the witnesses after almost 30 years is... no, they don't.
however, i would add that they wish they were but are simply too big and unwieldy to really pull it off.

Read S. Hassan's Book: Do JW's really fit the cult mold?
“I think its an interesting case because very little of the physical cult experience described in the book fits a typical witness (no physical isolation, no sleep deprivation, no public humiliations, they don't seem to have the right type of money hungry charismatic cult leader, no constant fundraising efforts, no chanting/hypnosis/etc, etc etc. Reading anyone of the many case studies in there fits what I would generally have pictured as a cult. The Witnesses don't fit any of that.”
“Please” you have got to be putting us on.
You say: “No public humiliations,” they “”Don’t seem to have the right type of money,” Hungry charismatic leader or leaders,”No constant fund raising,” “No chanting.” I say balderdash.
I think in reality you are presently a faithful follower of the governing body of Jehovah’s witnesses concealed; which is fine, but don’t play us for fools or children.
1. Public humiliation - Disfellowshipping fits this.
2. No physical isolation - Disfellowshipping fits this.
3. No sleep deprivation - Disfellowshipping fits this.
4. They don't seem to have the right type of money hungry charismatic cult leader, no constant fundraising efforts. – What about magazine campaigns and including them in your will after you die.
5. No chanting/hypnosis/etc, - I consider their so called Theocratic Language to be chants that are quite affective, just try not talking like a Borg at a district convention, and talk like a real person and feel the pressure of not being conformed puts on you.

District Assembly eating rules....
by JH induring our district assembly which will be held at a coliseum, we were told not to go outside during the intermission, and not eat in restaurants near by.
we were told to bring our own food and eat inside the coliseum.
usually, the coliseum offers hot dogs and hamburgers and drinks, but the brothers refused this service.. .

Repent because God's Kingdom has drawn close!
by Kosonen inhere on this forum there are so many sinners, many here are doing things that will bring god's wrath upon themselves.
consider yourself if you in some aspect fit the description in romans 1:28-32:.
and just as they did not approve of holding god in accurate knowledge, god gave them up to a disapproved mental state, to do the things not fitting, filled as they were with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, badness, being full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malicious disposition, being whisperers, backbiters, haters of god, insolent, haughty, self-assuming, inventors of injurious things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, false to agreements, having no natural affection, merciless.

The holidays are just fine; if someone who was once a Witness is perturbed by them, it is mostly the bad sick controlling spirit, that being a Witness inoculated you with. Call it the power of Cult, or any other term, but for me being a Jehovah’s Witness made my life distorted and altogether weird and bordering on unsociably inept .

Here is the funeral talk outline. VERY discraceful.
by stillstuckcruz inthis is truly terrible.
i just love the statement "instead of eulogizing the deceased, use the material in this outline to give a fine witness concerning the truth.
" in other words, utterly disregard the deceased.

As I observed in some situations if you want to center the discourse on the loss of the loved one and their life, you will receive a ration of crap if you attempt it.

Regular attendance at the Kingdom Hall produces lackadaisical outlooks
by Judicial Committee inregular attendance at the kingdom hall produces lackadaisical outlooks.
i was born a witness until i simply grew up, and started becoming responsible for my own views and decisions uncluttered from a magazine or (organizational) indoctrination.
there is a segment of our society that is much more content, to simply allow someone or something to make all lifes important choices for them.. i feel there is really a creator who loves and wants the best for mankind, trust me i did not learn this fact from the witnesses, all ever learned from them was to be dull minded and unable to question anything pertaining to spiritual matters, and live in fear and discomfort.

As I observe recent events in the world they make me recall the days when I was “engrossed” in being JACKED UP in my mind, at every instance when some awful world event happened, it was like “ah the end is Nigh” have I been out in Service enough! Am I, reaching out enough, Ah “my employer’s blood is on my shoulders” if I do not somehow interest him with the magazines. Now as the holidays near, and I am away from that insanity, I feel a lot more relaxed, if I want to give those cute little kids a Butterfinger’s candy bar when they ring the bell and say Trick or Treat or light up my aluminum tensile Christmas tree and play Christmas music, or eat turkey or a ham; I no longer feel psychotically ill and am in need of Buspar and paranoid of some confrontation with elders or other Jehovah’s Witnesses. It finally dawned on me after so very long, that “It’s My Life and I’ll do What I Want.”
